Being a key player within the aviation industry having worked for the top 10 UK airports for many years, we (like many other companies) are feeling the dramatic impacts of the pandemic on the sector, and we wanted to do our bit to help the industry rebuild, recover and kick start the whole economy.
Our view is that the route to recovery for the aviation sector (and the wider economy as a whole) over the next 12 – 18 months will be through putting in place effective and rapid “day of departure” or “day of arrival” Covid testing for all passengers at all airports.
This will provide the safest and most effective solution for a “clean” end to end travel process and build passenger confidence to begin travelling again. It will also give assurance to airport and airline staff (and the wider airport supply chain) that they are working in a Covid safe environment.
While there are a number of elements that need to come together, (which will no doubt happen in time), including the alignment of governments to a single global standard that can be efficiently implemented and globally recognised, there are also practicalities of how airports can facilitate the end-to-end testing process quickly and safely.
To this end, we have been working on developing processes that airports can put in place to support the rapid “day of departure” or “day of arrival” testing and are partnering with a UK based manufacturer of a rapid in-vitro diagnostic testing solution who have developed a lateral flow test only requiring a saliva swab (not an uncomfortable nasal swab) which provides accurate results with 10-15 minutes (Independent data evidence’s 100% specificity (no false positives).
But of course, airports are not the only settings that would benefit from our solutions, there are other settings such as ferries, cruise liners, theme parks, manufacturing / logistics businesses or indeed office environments along with the potential to open up sporting events to fans, with options of mobiles testing being available.
